'The 100' Season 3 Trailer Has Everyone at War
With just under a month left until The 100 returns for Season 3, two new trailers have been released for this beloved series. The CW has released both a regular trailer, which only runs 30 seconds long, and an extended trailer for The 100, which airs its The 100 Season 3 premiere Wahenda on Thursday, January 21 at 9 PM ET. The season premiere will follow directly after the series premiere of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow at 8 PM ET.
For two seasons, the refugees of The 100 sent to Earth have been at war. First with themselves, then with the Grounders, and finally with Mount Weather. Many have lost their lives along the way. All have lost their innocence. They have learned the hard way that in the fight for survival, there are no heroes and no villains. There is only the living and the dead. But now the war is over.
The battle against Mount Weather has been won. The prisoners have returned home to a world seemingly at peace, but can they find peace within themselves after what they had to do to escape? And is there more to life than just surviving? Unfortunately, their newfound sense of normalcy will be short-lived, and their lives will be changed forever, as threats both old and new test their loyalties, push them past their limits, and make them question what it truly means to be human.
First, they fought to survive. Then, they fought for their friends. Now, they will fight for the human race. Based on the book series by Kass Morgan, The 100 is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Alloy Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, with executive producers Jason Rothenberg and Leslie Morgenstein (The Vampire Diaries).
The TV series stars Eliza Taylor as Clarke, Paige Turco as Abby, Thomas McDonnell as Finn, Eli Goree as Wells, Marie Avgeropoulos as Octavia, Bob Morley as Bellamy, Kelly Hu as Cece, Christopher Larkin as Monty, Devon Bostick as Jasper, with Isaiah Washington as Chancellor Jaha, and Henry Ian Cusick as Kane. 'Star Wars 7' Early Reactions: It's Epic, Awesome and Perfect
While the rest of the world has to wait until Thursday night to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens, celebrities and critics alike gathered for the world premiere screening in Hollywood last night. Full reviews won’t be posted until Wednesday, but a slew of actors, filmmakers and online reviewers took to their Twitter accounts to share their early reactions with the fans, which were overwhelmingly positive. Although there were a few slightly negative takes on the most highly-anticipated movie of the year. One thing’s for certain, this premiere event was for the ages.
Actors such as Patton Oswalt, Rainn Wilson, Rob Lowe, Fred Savage, Elizabeth Banks, Dane Cook, Josh Gad and Eric Stonestreet chimed in with their thoughts on Twitter, while another celebrity even got into the cosplay spirit during the premiere. Joseph Gordon-Levitt showed up to the premiere, which was held simultaneously at both the El Capitan Theatre and the TCL Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard, dressed as Yoda. Filmmakers such as The Goldbergs creator Adam F. Goldberg, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, Andrew Stanton (WALL-E) and Brett Morgen (Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck) also chimed in, along with many more.
Three new heroes will be introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens universe, John Boyega‘s Finn, Daisy Ridley‘s Rey and Oscar Isaac‘s Poe Dameron, along with Adam Driver‘s villainous Kylo Ren. Beloved Star Wars characters Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo) and Carrie Fisher are also reprising their iconic roles from the original trilogy, although very little is known about their characters. The Star Wars: The Force Awakens supporting cast includes Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke and Max von Sydow as an unidentified character.
J.J. Abrams is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Lawrence Kasdan and Michael Arndt. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk are producing with Tommy Harper and Jason D. McGatlin serving as executive producers. Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be followed by the first spinoff, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, arriving on December 16, 2016. Star Wars: Episode VIII is slated for release on May 26, 2017, with Star Wars Anthology: Han Solo Movie arriving on May 25, 2018 and Star Wars: Episode IX premiering sometime in 2019.
Along with the reactions from actors, filmmakers and critics, 20th Century Fox, which still owns the rights to the original classic that started it all, 1977’s Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, sent out an interesting tweet themselves last night as well. 'Synchronicity' Trailer Unlocks the Secrets of Time Travel
Next year, the perils of time travel will be explored in a thrilling new way with the sci-fi thriller Synchronicity. Magnet Releasing has debuted the first trailer for this “Sci-fi Noir” tale, which has been compared to classics such as Blade Runner, Gattaca and Memento. Magnet Releasing has set a January 22, 2016 release date for Synchronicity, which will go up against Sony’s The 5th Wave, STX Entertainment’s The Boy and Liosngate’s Dirty Grandpa.
Daring physicist Jim Beale (Chad McKnight) has invented a machine that can fold space-time and ruthless corporate tycoon Klaus Meisner (Michael Ironside) will stop at nothing to get it. When Jim uses the machine to tear open the fabric of the universe, a rare Dahlia appears from the future. But in order to keep the rights to his invention he must prove that it works by finding the flower’s identical match in the present.
Jim soon discovers that the Dahlia lies in the hands of the mysterious Abby, who seduces him into revealing his secrets. Convinced that she is in league with Klaus to take ownership of his life’s work, Jim travels back in time to stop the conspiracy before it can happen. But once in the past, Jim uncovers a surprising truth about Abby, the machine, and his own uncertain future.
Brianne Davis, AJ Bowen, Scott Poythress, Claire Bronson, Ashley Drayton, Derek Ryan Duke, Sergine Dumais and Elle Sunkara round out the supporting cast of Synchronicity. Jacob Gentry, who directed the 2007 thriller entitled The Signal, directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Alex Orr. The film will also be debut on VOD platforms and iTunes along with the theatrical release on January 22.

It isn’t known how wide a release this sci-fi thriller will receive next year, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted with more details as we get closer and closer to the January 22, 2016 release. 'Xena' TV Reboot Moves Forward with 'Lost' Writer
Back in July, we reported that NBC is in the early stages of developing a reboot of the beloved 1995 fantasy series Xena: Warrior Princess. Original Xena: Warrior Princess producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert are coming back to produce, and we reported in August that the reboot is seeking writers to tackle the story. Today we have word from Variety that Lost writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach has signed on to write and executive produce this new version of Xena: Warrior Princess.
The original Xena: Warrior Princess debuted in 1995, but Lucy Lawless‘ title character was originally introduced on another first-run syndicated show, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, before she got her own spinoff. Renée O’Connor also starred as Xena’s companion Gabrielle, with Ted Raimi as Joxer, Bruce Campbell as Autolycus, Marton Csokas as Borias and a young Karl Urban in one of his early roles as Julius Caesar. It remains to be seen if any of the supporting cast members will be asked back for the reboot.
Our earlier report revealed this TV reboot is being eyed for a 2016 debut, and the network is searching for an actress who could combine the charisma and charm of original series star Lucy Lawless, with the smarts of Katniss from The Hunger Games franchise. NBC hopes to turn this into an ongoing series, but it isn’t known if the network is eyeing it as a 13-episode limited series run, or if it will get a full 22-episode season. The earlier report also claimed that the network wants to bring original star Lucy Lawless back in some capacity, either as a star or producer.
Lucy Lawless, who is married to producer Rob Tapert, tweeted this summer that the report “was just a rumor,” but Bob Greenblatt said he’d be open to the actress being involved behind-the-scenes in some way. The original series ran from 1995 to 2001, spanning six seasons and 134 episodes, and made Lucy Lawless a household name. It isn’t known if the network is seeking established actresses for the title role, or if they are seeking unknown actors.
Javier Grillo-Marxuach has written for a number of prominent TV shows such as The Pretender, Charmed, Lost , Medium and, most recently, Helix. It isn’t known who will direct the pilot at this time, but it seems possible that Sam Raimi could direct the first episode, like he did with the Starz series Ash Vs. Evil Dead. Will 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Shatter Every Box Office Record?
The box office has been dominated by Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 over the past four weekends, with newcomers like Krampus and last weekend’s In the Heart of the Sea failing to take down this franchise finale. This weekend, there are three new movies hitting theaters, but all eyes will be on just one, Disney’s highly-anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is expected to break box office records. Universal’s Sisters and 20th Century Fox’s Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Road Chip are sharing their debut with this behemoth, but according to the box office projections from Pro.BoxOffice.com, they naturally won’t come close to this new Star Wars adventure.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which held its world premiere in Hollywood last night, is projected to take in a whopping $223 million in its first weekend. If this projection is accurate, it will be more than enough to break the all time record for largest opening weekend, set earlier this year by Jurassic World with $208.8 million. Earlier projections put Star Wars: The Force Awakens at $300 million for its first weekend in theaters, and it has already set a record for highest advance ticket sales, with over $50 million in tickets sold. That record was set last month, breaking The Dark Knight Rises’ record of $25 million. That $50 million tally has surely gotten bigger since then, but we don’t have any updated figures as of yet. Pro.BoxOffice.com is also projecting that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will earn $790 million during its domestic box office run, which is more than enough to break Avatar’s all time record of $760.5 million. It’s also completely possible that Star Wars: The Force Awakens breaks Avatar’s global record of $2.7 billion as well, but we’ll have to wait and see.

While official theater counts haven’t been determined yet, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is expected to open in more than 3,900 theaters, with Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Road Chip debuting in 3,600 theaters and Sisters arriving in roughly 2,900 theaters. Sisters currently sits at a healthy 87% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, although no reviews are in yet for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Road Chip. Rounding out the top 5 will be The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 with an estimated $7.5 million and The Good Dinosaur with a projected $6.1 million.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler reunite for Sisters about two disconnected sisters summoned home to clean out their childhood bedroom before their parents sell the family house. Looking to recapture their glory days, they throw one final high-school-style party for their classmates, which turns into the cathartic rager that a bunch of ground-down adults really need. The supporting cast includes Maya Rudolph, John Leguizamo, Madison Davenport, Heather Matarazzo, John Cena, James Brolin and Dianne Wiest. Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Road Chip centers on Alvin (Justin Long), Simon (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Theodore (Jesse McCartney) coming to believe that Dave (Jason Lee) is going to propose to his new girlfriend in New York City…and dump them. They have three days to get to him and stop the proposal, saving themselves not only from losing Dave but possibly from gaining a terrible stepbrother. The supporting cast includes Bella Thorne and Tony Hale.
Rounding out the top 10 will be Creed ($6 million), In the Heart of the Sea ($5.3 million), Krampus ($4.9 million), Spectre ($2.8 million) and The Night Before ($2.1 million). Also opening in limited release is Lionsgate’s Extraction, Magnolia’s The Lady in the Car with Glasses and a Gun, Well Go USA’s Mojin: The Lost Legend and Sony Pictures Classics Son of Saul, which is one of the top contenders for the Best Foreign Language Picture at the Oscars this year. No specific theater counts were given for any of these platform releases, and it isn’t known if there are plans to expand them nationwide.
Looking ahead to next weekend, Christmas Day falls on Friday this year, bringing four new movies in wide release, Sony’s Concussion starring Will Smith, Paramount’s Daddy’s Home starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell, 20th Century Fox’s Joy starring Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro, and Warner Bros.’ Point Break, starring Luke Bracey and Edgar Ramirez. Paramount’s The Big Short will also expand nationwide on Wednesday, December 23. Opening in limited release is The Weinstein Company’s The Hateful Eight, which opens with a unique roadshow event before expanding nationwide on December 31, 20th Century Fox’s The Revenant, set to expand on January 8, and Sundance Selects’ 45 Years. Take a look at the projected top 10 for the weekend of December 18, and check back on Sunday for the box office estimates.

Earlier today, the Hot Toys Facebook page released a new photo from their collectibles lineup, which features highly-detailed depictions of both Batman and Superman. Here’s what the company had to say about this image on their Facebook page.
“Black and blue, god vs. man, day vs. night!” Prepare for the gladiator fight between Son of Krypton and Bat of Gotham! Hot Toys 1/6th scale collectible figures of these two titans from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will officially unveil at the upcoming Toy Soul 2015 on Dec 18 in Hong Kong. Remember to keep a look out for them at Hot Toys’ booth (F01-16)!”
This photo comes just a few days after Hot Toys unveiled their Batmobile collectible, which will also be showcased at Toy Soul 2015 this weekend. It isn’t known when the Batmobile or these Batman and Superman action figures will be available for purchase yet, but the merchandising company may make this announcement during Toy Soul 2015. Hopefully we’ll get to see many more photos from this collection as the countdown to Toy Soul 2015, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice itself, continues.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be the first big-screen adventure ever that brings both Batman and Superman together. We learned from director Zack Snyder at this year’s Comic Con that Batman’s Gotham and Superman‘s Metropolis are “twin cities” separated by a bay, similar to San Francisco and Oakland. It has also been confirmed that part of the destruction in 2013’s Man of Steel spilled over into Gotham, destroying Wayne Tower, which helps set up the conflict between these two heroes.
There have been rumors that the end of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will featuring Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) joining forces with the rest of the Justice League, The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher). Even if we don’t see these heroes in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it won’t be long before this superhero team comes together. And we can expect to see Hot Toys for all of these iconic DC Comics heroes.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will kick of Warner Bros.’ DC Comics Extended Universe (DCEU) on March 25, 2016. Just a few months later, the villains will take over with Suicide Squad (August 5, 2016), which will also feature an appearance by Ben Affleck as The Dark Knight. Those movies will be followed by Wonder Woman (June 23, 2017), Justice League Part 1 (November 17, 2017), The Flash (March 23, 2018), Aquaman (July 27, 2018), Shazam! (April 5, 2019), Justice League Part 2 (June 14, 2019), Cyborg (April 3, 2020) and Green Lantern Corps. (June 19, 2020). 'Ice Age: Collision Course' Trailer Sends Scrat Into Outer Space
Way back in early November, 20th Century Fox released the Ice Age short Cosmic Scrat-Tastrophe. Opening with the release of The Peanuts Movie, it sets up the events that will be seen in the sequel Ice Age: Collision Course. Today, we get a full-length trailer for this upcoming sequel. And guess what? It’s just the short shaved down to two and a half minutes. Kind of a rip-off, huh? But still fun none the less!
Scrat journeys where no Ice Age character has gone before in Ice Age: Collision Course. Scrat’s epic pursuit of the elusive acorn catapults him into the universe where he accidentally sets off a series of cosmic events that transform and threaten the Ice Age World. To save themselves, Sid, Manny, Diego, and the rest of the herd must leave their home and embark on a quest full of comedy and adventure, traveling to exotic new lands and encountering a host of colorful new characters.
Ice Age: Collision Course, opening in theaters everywhere July 22, 2016. Returning cast members include Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo,Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott, Josh Peck, Simon Pegg, Keke Palmer, Wanda Sykes and Jennifer Lopez. Joining the herd are Stephanie Beatriz, Adam DeVine, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Max Greenfield, Jessie J, Nick Offerman, Melissa Rauch, Michael Strahan and Neil deGrasse Tyson. With the arrival of the trailer, we’ve also dug the original short film out of the vault so you can see the whole thing!
If this trailer isn’t enough for you, we have a poster featuring Scrat and his ol’ illusive acorn as they stand proudly in space. This epic one-sheet promises ‘one small step’ which obviously leads to ‘one giant mess’. Scrat’s adventures have certainly caused a lot of problems in the past. But this latest blunder could wipe out a whole family favorite franchise!
We still have 9 months to wait for Ice Age: Collision Course, which is sure to be one of summer 2016’s biggest hits. The original Ice Age opened in 2002, earning $176.3 million at the domestic box office before going on to earn $383 million worldwide. It was followed by three more sequels, which have taken in more than $700 million. The film will have some strong competition when it opens this July. Arriving on the same day is Star Trek Beyond and Knights of the Round Table, which will both pull in large family audiences. But Scrat isn’t afraid of Kirk, Spock and King Arthur. 'Fantastic Beasts' Trailer Returns to the World of Harry Potter
Last week, Warner Bros. released a brief teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which revealed that the full trailer will arrive on Tuesday, December 15. That day has finally arrived, with Warner Bros. unveiling the first full trailer this morning, giving fans their first glimpse at a never-before-seen part of the wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling. Warner Bros. Pictures has slated Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them for worldwide release in 2D and 3D in select theaters and IMAX on November 18, 2016.
Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) stars in the central role of wizarding world magizoologist Newt Scamander, under the direction of David Yates, who helmed the last four Harry Potter blockbusters. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident… were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.
The cast of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is rounded out by Katherine Waterston (Steve Jobs, Inherent Vice) as Tina; Tony Award winner Dan Fogler (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) as Jacob; Alison Sudol (Dig, Transparent) as Tina’s sister, Queenie; Ezra Miller (Trainwreck) as Credence; two-time Oscar nominee Samantha Morton (In America, Sweet and Lowdown) as Mary Lou; Oscar winner Jon Voight (Coming Home, TV’s Ray Donovan) as Henry Shaw, Sr.; Ron Perlman (the Hellboy films) as Gnarlack; Carmen Ejogo (Selma) as Seraphina; Jenn Murray (Brooklyn) as Chastity; young newcomer Faith Wood-Blagrove as Modesty; and Colin Farrell (True Detective) as Percival Graves.
The film marks the screenwriting debut of J.K. Rowling, whose beloved Harry Potter books were adapted into the top-grossing film franchise of all time. Her script was inspired by the Hogwarts textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, written by her character Newt Scamander. The film reunites a number of people from the Harry Potter features, including producers David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is being filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, which was home to the Harry Potter films for a decade. Some scenes were also shot on location in Liverpool, England. Doomsday Isn't the Biggest Threat in 'Batman v Superman'
When the third trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrived earlier this month, it gave fans their first look at the massive villain Doomsday, who had long been rumored as part of this massive superhero adventure. While many fans were upset that this trailer revealed too much, there is still much we don’t know about how Doomsday fits into the story. The French magazine Premiere (courtesy of Cosmic Book News) managed to catch up with production designer Patrick Tatopoulos, who revealed that Doomsday will evolve throughout Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
“We are able to tell a story in a fresh way. Doomsday is an evolution essentially. Fans may be aware of the death of Superman story, but this is handled in such a new way. When the film is called Batman v or versus Superman, it really has a lot of levels to the meaning. Superman isn’t just killed off at the end of something. We see how he evolves as part of Lex’s plan to protect the world. Seeing the Superman we know, be gone, and then replaced with this reproduction is really going to make fans think of how we look at these super beings. It was especially interesting to figure out, how would you create Superman from Zod… then how would that evolve into Doomsday.”
This essentially confirms a long-held rumor that Doomsday was created from the corpse of General Zod, which explains why we saw the deceased Zod in the last two trailers. In the comics, Doomsday killed Superman in the iconic Death of Superman story, and the production designer also seems to hint that Henry Cavill‘s Superman may be captured, before being “replaced” by a “reproduction.” The most recent trailer hinted that Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) had arranged the first meeting between Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) and Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck), which is seemingly all part of a grand master plan.
Patrick Tatopoulos also disagreed with the notion that too much is revealed in the latest Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer, hinting that the “timeframe of how things fall into place will surprise fans” and that “Doomsday isn’t just the final act.” The production designer also teased that there is a “larger threat at play,” which ties into another early rumor. It is believed that Batman, Superman and Gal Gadot‘s Wonder Woman will all unite with the rest of the Justice League, upon learning of this larger threat, rumored to be Brainiac.
Brainiac will then go on to be the main villain in Justice League Part 1 and Justice League Part 2, which are set for release in 2017 and 2019, respectively. Of course, Brainiac’s inclusion has yet to be confirmed, but we’ll find out for sure when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016. 'Independence Day 2' Viral Site Reveals What Happened to Will Smith
Yesterday, we got the first trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence. And while the sneak peek was an exciting nostalgia trip back to 1996, you may have noticed one key element missing. There was no Steven Hiller. Will Smith opted not to return for this long awaited sequel. So, what happened to his character? A new viral site for Independence Day: Resurgence has launched, and it has our explanation. Warof1996.com offers us an alternate history of the United States, following the July 4th attack that devastated the world. And within the various slides presented on the site, we get to learn what happened to Steven Hiller, who so valiantly fought to save mankind. Let’s just say he won’t be back for Independence Day 3, which is already in the works. Dated April 27, 2007, we learn this about Hiller’s ultimate fate.
“While test piloting the ESD’s first alien hybrid fighter, an unknown malfunction causes the untimely death of Col. Hiller. Hiller’s valor in the War of 96 made him a beloved global icon whose selfless assault against the alien mothership lead directly to the enemy’s defeat. Vivica A. Fox returns to reprise her role as ex-stripper Jasmine in Independence Day: Resurgence. And Jessie Usher takes over the Will Smith role as son Dylan Hiller. We got our first look at Dylan in yesterday’s teaser. It also brought our first look at new cast members Liam Hemsworth and Maika Monroe. They will be fighting this alien attack alongside returning cast members Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum.
When Independence Day: Resurgence begins, we will learn that a small squad of Alien resistance fighters still survive in an isolated area of the African Congo. Though, the majority of the alien threat has been neutralized around the world. Earth has risen from the ashes. And a grand reconstruction has started as the great cities, monuments and landmarks of the world are slowly restored to their former glory. It is now twenty years after that initial attack. And the aliens are coming back ready for revenge.
The near annihilation of humankind has given the world an unexpected but welcome effect as centuries old conflicts and political distrust are dissolved to create an unprecedented unity among the nations of the world. 'Star Trek Beyond' Trailer Has Arrived
Here’s an early Christmas present! The Star Trek Beyond trailer has officially arrived. And it’s 90 seconds of pure bliss set to the Beastie Boys hit Sabotage. Here, we get our first footage from the third installment in producer J.J. Abrams’ rebooted Star Trek universe. And all of our favorites return, including Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock, along with the rest of the crew.
This slick teaser kicks off with Simon Pegg as Scotty, commenting on Kirk’s bold taste in vintage music, a direct callback to the original 2009 Star Trek, which started it all. Though, we’re not sure if Sabotage is being used as a metaphor or not. In the opening moments of this sneak peek, we’re reintroduced to the entire crew of the Starship Enterprise, which includes Karl Urban as Bones, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, John Cho as Sulu and Anton Yelchin as Chekov.
Star Trek Beyond takes place during the Enterprise’s five year mission to boldly go where no man has gone before. The crew will discover new life and alien civilizations. But as we can see in this preview, not all goes according to plan. The Starship comes under attack, and Kirk is jettisoned to survive on an unknown planet by himself. He boldly states the following.
“No ship. No crew. How am I going to get out of this one?”
As we see in the trailer, the entire crew has been separated. While Kirk tries to survive on his own, Scotty is set off on a periless, mountain climbing adventure. Meanwhile, Bones and Spock are cornered by an unknown alien species. Bones expresses his relief to Spock that at least he won’t die alone. But then, Spock is teleported away from the dangerous situation. In response, Dr. McCoy states, ‘Well, that’s just typical.’
We get to see Kirk displaying his motorcycle skills only hinted at in the original Star Trek. And we are introduced to the new alien played by Sofia Boutella. There are plenty of explosions, a lot of action and a quick glimpse at Idris Elba as the new lead villain. It’s an exciting hint at what we can expect from director Justin Lin, who brings his Fast & Furious swagger to this longstanding franchise. The Star Trek Beyond trailer will debut on the big screen with Star Wars: The Force Awakens starting this Thursday, with both sequels coming from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot. 12 Days of 'Deadpool' Launches with New Poster & Viral Video
Ho, ho, ho! It’s the 12 Days of Deadpool! And it all starts with a new viral video and EW’s exclusive poster from this Marvel movie adventure starring Ryan Reynolds. Over the course of the next two weeks, we will be getting an exciting gift from Wade Wilson himself every day. It promises to be a time filled with joy, and laughter and even some tears. This is all leading up to the big trailer reveal on Christmas day. Here’s what Wade Wilson had to say about this holiday explosion.
“Hi, I’m Deadpool. The other guy in a red suit with a lap worth sitting on. I’m here to tell you happy holidays. In the spirit of this most festive time of year, I’ve decided to release my holiday cheer all over the world. How, you ask? Well, you naughty stocking stuffers, brace yourselves, because starting today, you’re getting not one, not two, but twelve glorious days of Deadpool. So sit back, hold onto your ornaments, have a little egg nog…Well, at least that looks like egg nog…And prepare yourself, because it’s time for Saint Wade to put the win in winter wonderland.”
The 12 Days of Deadpool starts now. Each day a new site is debuting a tasty treat. And on the 25th, the sweetest gift of all, a new Deadpool trailer. We kick things off with the official movie poster, which arrives courtesy of EW. We get a nice crotch shot of Ryan Reynolds suited up in his jolly red suit, brandishing a weapon, dangling there as a big sexual metaphor. It arrives along with the tagline ‘Wait ’til you get a load of me.’
To play along with this online advent calendar, you’ll have to get up early every morning and open one of your favorite movie and entertainment websites. Following the big poster reveal today, the next day of Deadpool happens tomorrow on People. December 16 sees a gift from Deviant Art. On December 17, we’re getting a little something from Empire. Fandango drops it’s load on December 18. The dirty folks over at JoBlo will have a gift wrapped and ready on December 19. December 20 will bring something from the viral Deadpool Core site. Mashable will deliver their special gift on Dec 21. On December 22, we’ll get that exclusive IMAX trailer. And on December 23, Ryan Reynolds will be sharing the delights of his upcoming adventure movie. Christmas Eve will give us a trailer teaser. And it all leads up to the big Trailer reveal on Christmas morning, which happens on ESPN. Along with the new poster, director Tim Miller had this little stocking stuff to share about the movie.
“The movie focuses on Wade’s relationship with Vanessa and it’s actually a great love story. But we don’t punt the issue of his sexual urges. It’s in the comic and it’s in our film.”
Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life. Deadpool is in theaters in time for Valentine’s Day this February. Take a look at your first gift. Sorry, we already went and opened it.

The History of the Labour Party
As the Labour Party emerged to replace the Liberal Party in the 1920s, G.D.H. Cole suggested that its success was the inevitable consequence of the emergence of class politics. This was espoused in George Dangerfield’s amorphous study The Strange Death of Liberal England (1934) and by Henry Pelling’s more factually based The Origins of the Labour Party (1954). Their view was rejected by Trevor Wilson’s book, The Decline of the Liberal Party (1966), which proposed that Labour’s growth had less to do with working-class enfranchisement than with the impact of the First World War, when the Liberal Party found itself divided between the contrasting premierships and values of Henry Asquith and David Lloyd George. In the 1970s, there was intense debate between the rival interpretations of class politics and the First World War, fuelled by P.F. Clarke’s Lancashire and the New Liberalism (1971), which argued that the Liberal Party was in rude health on the eve of war, buoyed up by Lloyd George’s New Liberal policies and the Liberal reforms of 1905-14, which encouraged social harmony and largely retained the working-class male voter.
This view was countered by Ross McKibbin in his The Evolution of the Labour Party 1910-1924 (1974) and in my own book, The Rise of Labour (1988), arguing that the trade union base of Labour, when faced with industrial conflict, was more interested in winning support than establishing social harmony during strikes. Since then, the debate has widened to incorporate the views of David Howell, Bill Lancaster and Duncan Tanner, all of whom have raised the issues of regional and local variations in the growth of Labour and suggested that its success was not inevitable.
Labour’s victories since 1900 have been fitful. Two minority governments in 1924 and 1929-31, under Ramsay MacDonald, brought barely the most modest of social and political changes and much venom from those who considered him a traitor. However, David Marquand’s biography, Ramsay MacDonald (1977), represented him as an honest socialist driven by his commitment to the 19th-century values of statesmanship and national responsibility in the face of the horrific economic crisis that emerged after the Wall Street Crash of 1929. The complexity and permeability of Labour politics at this time has been developed further by John Shepherd’s monumental biography of George Lansbury (2002) and by David Howell’s commanding MacDonald’s Party: Labour Identities and Crisis 1922-1931 (2002), which examines Labour politics as it varyingly operated in the Independent Labour Party, the trade unions and other sections of Labour. This multi-layered reappraisal of Labour politics is also particularly evident in Britain’s Second Labour Government (2011) edited by John Shepherd, Jonathan Davies and Chris Wrigley. Through these works we have begun to understand the immense difficulties of minority Labour governments that were fractured by disagreement, overwhelming economic difficulties and unemployment costs.
Labour achieved success with the Clem Attlee governments of 1945 to 1951, creating the modern welfare state and the National Health Service; further success in the Harold Wilson and James Callaghan era of 1964 to 1970 and 1974 to 1979 and once again under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown between 1997 and 2010.
However, the nature of British politics has changed and, apart from the recent erosion of the welfare state and the NHS, there has been a retreat by Labour from the commitment to the Old Labour policies of public ownership to the embracing of capitalism within a wider framework, which increasingly eschews public control and is represented by New Labour. This may have been driven by Labour’s lengthy periods in opposition between 1951 and 1964, 1979 and 1997 and since 2010. In these wilderness years there were a flurry of books and articles published on the theme of ‘Must Labour Lose?’ and ‘The Future of Labour’, following Eric Hobsbawm’s Marxism Today article ‘The Forward March of Labour Halted’ (1978). One dominating theme has been the declining role of the trade unions, whose control of the Labour Party, as secured by the 1918 Constitution, was eroded in the 1980s to a third of the vote in the leadership election to one that was indirectly successful in the election of Jeremy Corbyn as leader in 2015. The broader reaction against trade union domination has been captured in the extensive writings of Chris Wrigley and John Shepherd in Crisis? What Crisis?: The Callaghan Government and the British ‘Winter of Discontent’ (2013), which deals with the industrial conflict of 1978-9 that saw uncollected rubbish accumulate in the streets and corpses unburied as roughly one and a half million workers went on strike. It still resonates in British politics and public rhetoric.
As class politics appears to be less relevant in British society now – with the structural decline of the large industries and their blue-collar workers along with the waning of trade union power – we have recently been reminded in Martin Pugh’s iconoclastic Speak for Britain: A New History of the Labour Party (2010) that Labour never truly became the party of the working class; it skilfully adapted its message to the established local and regional cultures of the Liberal and Tory traditions and became emasculated by Blair. Pugh’s suggestion that Labour has a tendency to choose the wrong leader and to hang on to him too long is an interesting reflection in the light of the result of Labour’s recent leadership election.
Only time will tell whether or not this means that Labour’s forward march has been halted.
